Abstract Nanjing University is China's earliest unit engaged in human geography science teaching and research, geography. As one of the first foreign research institutions established in national universities, the Institute of African Studies of Nanjing University has been established for nearly 50 years, as the main characteristics of African resources, population, environment, regional economy, urbanization, China-Africa relations, African culture, which has made gratifying achievements and fruitful results in African studies. The Institute of African Studies of Nanjing University is an important base of China's African studies and national African Studies think-tank - "China Association Africa studies".
Under the current circumstances, with the upgrading of Africa's international status and the establishment of China-Africa new strategic partnership, much more cooperation between China and Africa are established, including resources development, energy cooperation, and the flow of talent, capital and technology export. In this case, Nanjing University of African geography research will also get a new development. Along with the deepening of China-Africa strategic partnership, Nanjing University's Africa geographical research on the one hand should be emphasized that with the combination of the national strategy to better play the intellectual contribution of geographical research on national economic and social development, on the other hand, based on comprehensive advantages of geography, research should deep into Africa geographical environment, rich in African regional geography research of theory, and provide policy advice and support for economic and social development in Africa. Therefore, Nanjing University need to take more attentions to construction of multidisciplinary teams, support more funding for research, research comprehensive survey of the empirical research, and continue to strengthen and promote exchange with African scholars.
